Postcard: The Salt Works

Once Fort Clatsop was constructed, a crew established a camp at the beach and stayed there several weeks boiling sea water over a rock furnace to create salt. Remnants of the original rock structure remained, and the site has been reconstructed and is under the care of the Lewis & Clark National Historical Park.
